Ceremony venues for your wedding

Venues civil wedding

Civil wedding Italy guide: the ceremony is legally valid when it is held at a venue designated by the municipality. Below you find the ceremony venues in Tuscany I know personally, for civil, catholic and symbolic ceremonies.

Tuscany offers a wide choice of wedding venues for the civil ceremony. You can think of the Tuscan art cities, the smaller medieval hilltop towns, the Chianti Classico area, the Tuscan coast, and some accommodations offer the possibility of holding the civil ceremony in their garden.

Venues catholic wedding

To be able to marry in a church in Tuscany, the requirement is that at least one of you is baptized and confirmed. Mooitoscane has contacts with various parishes where foreign couples can also marry and where the mass is celebrated in English or German. We also have contact with a Dutch priest who can fly over.

Venues symbolic wedding

In Tuscany it is currently only possible to legally marry at venues designated by the municipality, or to have a Catholic wedding in a church. So if you want to marry at your own dream location, you can opt for a symbolic wedding ceremony.

In Tuscany there are many beautiful wedding venues for your ceremony. I have divided the wedding venues for the legal ceremony into four categories: Tuscan art cities, Tuscan hilltop towns, the Chianti Classico area, and the Tuscan coast, each with their various venues. These are wedding venues with which I have personal experience.

Below you can also find information about Catholic weddings and symbolic weddings.

Civil wedding in Italy: where and how to say yes

Where can a legal civil wedding take place in Tuscany?

A civil wedding in Italy is only legally valid when it is held at a venue designated by the municipality. In Tuscany these are mainly historic town halls, but some municipalities also allow the ceremony in the garden or hall of a licensed villa or farmhouse. A ceremony at any other place of your choice is a symbolic wedding.

The ceremony venues are grouped in four areas: the Tuscan art cities (Florence, Siena, Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo), the hilltop towns (such as Certaldo, San Gimignano, San Miniato, Vinci, Volterra and Barga), the Chianti Classico area (Radda, Castellina and Greve in Chianti) and the Tuscan coast (Cecina, Suvereto, Massa Marittima and Lerici). These are venues Renske knows from personal experience.

Only if the municipality has designated that property as a wedding venue. Several venues on this site are licensed, for example a Medici villa near Florence, an agriturismo among olive trees near Florence and a villa and a borgo in the San Gimignano area. As a rule each partner needs a declaration that there is no impediment to the marriage (Nulla Osta, or for some countries a Certificate of No Impediment), a birth certificate and, if relevant, proof that a previous marriage has ended. Documents usually need an apostille and an Italian translation, and the exact list depends on your nationality and on the town hall. You are guided through every step, and a few days before the wedding you meet for the pre-registration at the town hall.

The registrar conducts the ceremony in Italian. If you do not speak Italian, an interpreter translates the ceremony for you and your guests, and this is arranged as part of the planning.
